Triton Systems is seeking a Materials /Metallurgical Engineer with knowledge and/or experience in additive manufacturing and an interest in innovative research and development and a desire to create exciting new products. Triton's diverse set of projects will give you experience across the product development cycle and allow you to shine in a fast-paced environment. The Materials and Manufacturing group focuses on several program areas including additive manufacturing, new materials design and development, process modeling and simulation, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Research and Development: As a part of your job, you will be responsible for executing research and development projects primarily in material science and metallurgy. Your duties will include designing and conducting experiments independently, analyzing the results, and developing innovative solutions. You will also lead R&D and product development programs. Your contributions will be crucial in understanding our customers' requirements, developing concepts that meet their needs, creating concept development plans, and presenting them to customers in written and verbal formats.

  • Materials Processing Improvement, Material Testing, and Analysis: You will perform and oversee independent tests on metals and alloys, using advanced techniques to analyze mechanical, chemical, microstructural, and physical properties. You will also improve material processing and fabrication methods and lead the development of new materials and alloys aligned with the project's needs.

  • Documentation, Reporting and Collaboration: Accurate record-keeping and report creation are integral to your role. You will be responsible for delivering customer results through written and oral presentations. Collaboration is critical, as you will work with teams from different departments to achieve material specifications, assist project engineers, and foster an inclusive work environment. You will also play a crucial role in identifying potential partners for collaboration and team members to support the development of concepts.

  • Professional Development: Lastly, to ensure your professional development, you must stay updated on the latest advancements in the field through continuous learning opportunities, such as conferences and specialized training.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field. Ph.D.'s will also be considered.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of metallurgical materials engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in metallurgical principles, materials processing, and material characterization.
  • An independent and proactive work style with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical skills and a commitment to problem-solving.
  • Hands-on experimental and fabrication experience, specifically focused on cold spray technology, thermal spray, or metal additive manufacturing generally.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Adaptability and desire to learn new technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks) and simulation tools (COMSOL, FEMAP).
  • Knowledge of ISO/ASTM standards and quality systems.
  • Practical experience in metal additive manufacturing, especially cold spray processing.
  • Experience with metal alloys utilized in the Defense and Aerospace market (desired but not required).
  • Experience with advanced characterization techniques such as SEM, EBSD, TEM, etc.
  • Experience independently managing projects is desired.
  • Experience with government R&D/product development programs is preferred.
