SUPERVISORY CONTROL: Education Manager/ Education/Disabilities Manager

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, typically 7:30am-3:00pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

37.5 hours per week for 42 weeks.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Responsible for planning and executing a program for children in line with the program’s philosophy and the highest goals of early childhood at a designated site. In accordance with the philosophy of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff in the agency and demonstrate a positive attitude towards all clients and other persons with whom you come in contact during the course of your job. Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Be able to kneel, stoop, bend, reach, and sit on the floor on a daily basis. Teacher would report to different centers within Columbia County as needed.


SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  1. Understand and work to achieve the goals, philosophy and objectives of the Head Start program.
  2. Plan and direct activities that will complete developmental screenings and developmental assessments, setting up individualized educational activities for each child.
  3. Instruct, lead, and supervise teacher assistants, center aides, student teachers, interns, and volunteers in carrying out planned activities.
  4. Assume responsibility for involving parents in center activities, field trips, and home visits and on other appropriate occasions on a regular basis.
  5. Ensure maximum health and safety of each child by careful observation and maintenance of the center.
  6. Assume responsibility for the classroom’s appearance and share housekeeping chores with other staff members.
  7. Set up home visit plans for each child and family enrolled and follow through with this plan at successive visits, up-dating as necessary and involving the parents or primary care-taker in the learning process whenever possible.
  8. Assist the Family Service Worker and Managers in all related matters where deemed necessary.
  9. Develop activities based on current curriculum.
  10. Complete accurately and neatly all required written reports and records on assigned children.
  11. Keep confidential any matters pertaining to a child and/or family involved with Head Start.
  12. Help orient new volunteers and visitors.
  13. Promote mutual understanding and cooperation between Head Start parents and staff.
  14. Attend all staff meetings.
  15. Maintain frequent, open communication with the Director, all Managers, and staff.
  16. Participate in staff trainings and development sessions. Maintain current credentials.
  17. Act as a representative of Head Start in the community to strengthen the image of Head Start and families.
  18. Teachers will write the monthly classroom newsletter.
  19. Teachers will evaluate student teachers, interns, and volunteers.
  20. Teachers will supervise Teacher Assistant and Center Aide in the classroom, on home visits, and during diagnostic evaluations.
  21. Be responsible for the assigned computer hardware and software. Perform regular maintenance functions and other duties as outlined in the agency’s written procedure on computer systems.
  22. Complete other duties as deemed necessary by the Head Start Director and the management staff for the efficient, quality operation of the Head Start program.
Requirements:

At least two years of work experience related to the care and development of children is preferred for all positions.

Teacher II: Possess an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, or Human Services field.

Teacher I: Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, or Human Services field.
