Coder

The Coding Specialist is responsible for coding medical records.

Responsibilities:

• Collect statistical data by entering information into computer.
• Abstracts clinical information from a variety of medical records, charts and documents and assigns appropriate ICD-10 and/or CPT codes to patient records.
• Educate clinic staff and providers on billing policies and procedures
• Review patient financial charts and correct errors as necessary.
• Verify coding and completion of documentation.
• Submit patient claims
• Monitor and adjust patient accounts.
• Perform timely follow-up of billed accounts.
• Obtain additional required billing information as needed

Requirements:

• Minimum H.S. Diploma required
• Graduate of Health Information Management program with successful completion of the registration exam or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in inpatient and outpatient coding and/or must complete and pass a coding test before hire, preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) or requires RHIA, RHIT, CCS and/or CPS certification. within one year of employment.
