Our Sumitomo Bakelite N,A., plant in Manchester, CT is in need of a Machinist/Millwright.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Perform a variety of machine shop operations. Set up and operate various machines such as drill press, lathe, milling, and grinding machines. Manufacture new in terms of equipment involving machining, welding, fabricating, assembly, fitting, finishing, and installation. Maintain, repair, and install all types of plant machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose machine and equipment problems, tear down units, determine extent of repairs required. Repair or replace worn or damaged parts, reassemble, start-up, and test. Occasionally layout and make special equipment or attachments. Work from sketches, blueprints, layout designs, or instructions.
  • Perform close tolerance bench operations to fit bearings, shafts, spindles, and gears, fit and align parts.
  • Work with other maintenance classifications on various maintenance, repair, and installations as assigned and directed.
  • Detect unusual conditions, defective materials, operating difficulties, or process upsets, and report to supervisor.
  • Organize work methods to maximize productively on projects and equipment repairs assuring timely and efficient completion. Act with initiative to drive continuous improvement in the operation of plant processes. Maintain high level of skill and workmanship.
  • Requires the use of forklift trucks, man lifts, scissors lifts, booms, and other material handling equipment.
  • Observe prescribed or necessary safety precautions and work according to good manufacturing and housekeeping practices.
  • Implement and maintain the 5S systems in the plant. This includes sorting, straightening, and cleaning activities including but not limited to vacuuming, equipment cleaning and inspection and painting.
  • Performs routine janitorial tasks to clean, paint and maintain restrooms, locker and shower rooms, break rooms, canteen areas various manufacturing areas and aisles labs and offices in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Performs outside grounds maintenance as required including clearing of snow and ice at entrance ways and applying sand/salt as appropriate. Empties and removes trash, loads and operates trash compactor, handles recycle materials as necessary.
  • Perform other related job duties as required or necessary.
