Description:

As a Technician in the Emergency Room at NYP Queens, you will provide essential support to the nursing staff and assist with patient care tasks in a fast-paced emergency department environment. Your role will focus on delivering basic patient care, performing technical procedures, and supporting the daily operations of the ER.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care: Provide basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), including assisting with daily living activities and monitoring patient comfort.
  • Vital Signs: Take and record patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
  • Telemetry Surveillance: Monitor telemetry devices to observe patients’ heart rhythms and report any abnormalities to the RN or physician.
  • EKGs: Perform Electrocardiograms (EKGs) to assess patients' heart functions.
  • Glucose Testing: Perform glucose tests using finger sticks to monitor blood sugar levels.
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient care activities, vital signs, and test results in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the ER team to ensure efficient and effective patient care and support.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Emergency Department (ED) Technician, EKG Technician, Nursing Attendant, or equivalent - Required
  • Certifications:
    • EKG/Arrhythmia Certificate - Preferred
    • Medical Technician Certificate - Preferred
    • Nursing Attendant Certification - Preferred
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of basic patient care procedures and technical skills relevant to an emergency department setting.
    • Ability to perform EKGs and telemetry surveillance.
  • Additional Requirements: At least one (1) year of experience in a similar role.
