OVERVIEW

Working from our Cleveland, OH Office, the Housing Program Assistant is responsible for ensuring that resettled refugees are provided with safe, sanitary, and affordable housing. This position reports to the Field Office Director and works with a number of team members to deliver critical support across programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work directly with housing coordinator to secure housing for newly arriving families;
  • Implement housing set-ups with cooperation of staff and volunteers;
  • Identify volunteer opportunities and assist in coordinating efforts as needed during housing preparation and set-up;
  • Liaise with landlords and coordinate logistics of securing rentals;
  • Maintain positive working relationships with area landlords, inspectors, community development organizations, housing authorities, and property management agencies;
  • Participate in trainings, conferences, panels, committees and other networking opportunities to establish and grow the field office presence in housing industry;
  • Assist in the coordination of in-kind donations of furniture and household items;
  • Participate in developing the housing strategy of the field office with Director, staff and Advisory Committee members;
  • Complete administrative tasks assigned by Housing Coordinator including but not limited to online grocery deliveries, utility service transfers, supply orders and pickups, etc.;
  • Perform other duties, including case management, as assigned by the Director of the Field office;

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree preferred
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment;
  • Basic understanding of housing, rental process and market conditions, including experience navigating local housing landscape preferred
  • Prior experience providing services to refugees, asylees, and other immigrants preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate and build lasting relationships and partnerships;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently as well as in collaboration with others;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and database programs as required;
  • Must have a valid state-issued driver's license, automobile insurance, clean driving record and reliable personal transportation;
  • Must pass a criminal background check and other screening requirements;
  • Ability to travel locally as required; and
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI’s values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.

TRAINING REQUIRMENTS

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training; and
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor(s) or Human Resources,

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
