Job Description: Credit Risk Analyst

Overview: As a Credit Risk Analyst, you will be responsible for assessing and evaluating creditworthiness, analyzing credit data, and mitigating credit risks for individuals, businesses, or financial institutions. Your role involves conducting thorough financial analysis, evaluating loan applications, and providing recommendations to minimize credit losses and maintain a balanced risk-return profile.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Credit Risk Assessment:

    • Evaluate creditworthiness of individuals or businesses applying for loans or credit facilities.
    • Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant financial data to assess repayment capacity and credit risk.
    • Utilize credit scoring models, risk assessment tools, and industry benchmarks to determine credit ratings and risk levels.
  2. Loan Underwriting and Decision Making:

    • Review loan applications, credit proposals, and financial documentation to make informed lending decisions.
    • Assess loan eligibility, terms, and conditions based on risk assessment, credit policies, and regulatory guidelines.
    • Collaborate with underwriters, loan officers, and risk management teams to approve or recommend loan approvals.
  3. Risk Mitigation Strategies:

    • Identify potential credit risks, including credit default, delinquency, and non-performing loans.
    • Develop risk mitigation strategies and recommend risk controls to minimize credit losses and maintain portfolio quality.
    • Monitor loan portfolios, credit exposures, and performance metrics to proactively identify emerging risks and trends.
  4. Reporting and Documentation:

    • Prepare comprehensive credit risk assessment reports, loan reviews, and risk analysis summaries for management and stakeholders.
    • Maintain accurate and updated credit files, documentation, and records in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
    • Provide regular updates and insights on credit portfolio performance, trends, and risk exposures to senior management and risk committees.
  5. Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, credit policies, and risk management frameworks.
    • Stay informed about changes in credit regulations, industry guidelines, and best practices to uphold compliance standards.
    • Support audit processes, examinations, and regulatory reviews by providing accurate and timely credit risk information and documentation.

Skills Required:

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex data, interpret trends, and make data-driven credit decisions.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate credit analysis findings and recommendations.
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy and precision in reviewing financial documents, conducting risk assessments, and documenting findings.
  • Decision-Making: Sound judgment and decision-making abilities in evaluating credit applications and recommending loan approvals or mitigating actions.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree or certifications such as Credit Risk Certification advantageous).
  • 3-5 years of experience in credit risk analysis, loan underwriting, financial analysis, or related roles within banking, financial services, or lending institutions.
  • Familiarity with credit scoring models, risk assessment software, and proficiency in MS Excel and other analytical tools.
