DEPARTMENT: Medical Assistant

DAYS: Monday - Friday

HOURS: 7:30am – 4:30pm or 8am – 5pm

JOB SUMMARY: Assist with examinations by recording patient’s personal information and securing necessary medical records. Prepare and take x-rays for patients, remove stitches, draw blood, or change dressings. Maintain medical supplies inventory and stock exam rooms.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Greet patients and escort them from the waiting room to exam rooms.
  • Confirm prior records and x-rays pertinent to patient’s visit are available.
  • Utilize various electronic health records and systems to obtain/push outside imaging.
  • Take patient photographs, as directed by physician, and upload to the network drive.
  • Record patient medical history and vital signs in Epic.
  • Notify doctors when their patients are ready in an exam room.
  • Prepare patients for fibroscopes, as necessary.
  • Stock and prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Take x-rays (such as a conebeam, panorex or cepholometric) on patients.
  • Obtain dental impressions of patients for surgical study models and splints.
  • Perform telephone triage to include refills of prescriptions, addressing pre and post operative concerns, and scheduling urgent appointments.
  • Prepare homecare kit for post-op surgery patients.
  • Cold sterile and autoclave instruments.
  • Perform wound care, including debridement, suture and staple removal.
  • Order exam room supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for burning CD’s or printing copies of patient photos and/or imaging.
  • Clean exam rooms after every patient visit.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Accurate usage of grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Dispose of contaminated items and sharps according to OSHA guidelines.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school degree.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
  • X-ray certified.
  • Updated CPR certificate.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 2 years working in a medical office.
  • Ability to perform EKG’s, lab tests and handle lab paperwork.
  • Ability to obtain vital signs utilizing office technology and electronic health care records.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires full range of body motion, including assisting patients to exam rooms, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves frequent standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a clinic setting and requires constant contact with patients. Employee will be exposed to bodily fluids, and other conditions common to a clinic environment, on a regular basis. Employee should be able to work under stressful and fast paced conditions.
