General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain a preventative maintenance program within budget on all equipment and purchase repair parts and replacement supplies
  • Instruct management and crew how to properly and safely maintain and operate equipment
  • Establish and maintain safety procedures for using equipment
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment including: diesel, electric, and gasoline powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work
  • Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work and complete accordingly
  • Electronically record details of all repairs made and parts used
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and parts purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventative maintenance for all equipment
  • Maintain all equipment and vehicles to manufacturers specifications
  • Maintain, repair, and overhaul vehicles, such as tractors, sprayers, mowers and irrigation systems
  • Spot check equipment for performance, frequently make emergency repairs to equipment on the course and service equipment prior to use
  • Maintain fuel levels in machinery and equipment and order as necessary
  • Test and replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools
  • Repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools, milling and woodworking machines, lathes, welding equipment, grinders, or saws
  • Fabricate new metal parts, using drill presses and other machine tools
  • Approach all interaction with Members, guests, and colleagues in a courteous, service-oriented manner
  • Maintain a clean and safe maintenance building and mechanic workshop; ensure safety is a top priority

  • Assists course maintenance crew during aerification of course
  • Perform routine safety inspections on all golf course maintenance equipment
  • Maintain all equipment and vehicles to manufacturers specifications
  • Maintain a high level of quality of cut at all times; including reel grinding
  • Supervise, schedule and train Assistant Mechanic
  • In charge of ordering sand and soils for golf maintenance department
  • Attend trainings and meetings as required/requested
  • Follow all Club policies, systems, controls and procedures

Experience & Education:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as Head Mechanic
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience at premier country club preferred
  • Working knowledge of small and large engines, reel mowers, hydraulics, electrical systems, diesel engines, automobiles and welding
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Ability to work weekend events and weekends as needed
  • OSHA Hazard Communication Standard training required
  • Training as demanded by the state and federal governments required
  • EMCP Certification Level 1/GCSAA Association Dues
