POSITION SUMMARY

The Chassis Prepper is responsible for the construction of all workpieces to be utilized in the fabrication of the fire apparatus bumper. This position may operate fabricating machinery such as brake press, shears, and drill press. Parts Prepper must manage the inventory for all material shelves in the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

All employees are required to support Rosenbauer’s Mission, Vision, and Values. The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Rosenbauer.

  1. Constructs and manufactures all workpiece parts to be utilized for bodies.

  2. Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, and drill presses.

  3. Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications.
  4. Designs templates from blueprints to streamline construction process.

  5. Hammers, chips, and grinds workpiece to cut, bend, and straighten metal.

  6. Ensures that all parts and material shelves are filled with inventory and delivers materials to shelves when needed.

  7. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the organization and our members.

Tools to be utilized:

Hand tools, power tools, grinders, cut off wheels, brake press, shear, and tape measure.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED.

  • Experience operating a brake press required.

  • Strong mechanical and technical ability required.

  • 2+ years of experience working in a metal fabrication department preferred.

Skills:

Language:

  • Able to read and work from blueprints/spec books.

  • Able to read and understand a tape measure accurately.

  • Able to follow written and verbal directions.

  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Math:

Computer:

  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks, and Adobe/PDFs.

  • Able to perform simple computer tasks to obtain information/changes related to the build process and/or troubleshoot.

Abilities:

  • Able to identify quality issues, recognize changes within the production process, and adjust as needed.

  • Able to prioritize work and to multitask while adhering to deadlines.

  • Able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.

  • Able to understand and follow all safety policies to promote a safe working environment for all.
