POSITION OVERVIEW:
Manager of Team Security will be an integral part of the Philadelphia 76ers Basketball Operations and will work closely with players, coaching staff, and the entire Basketball Operations division. This position is responsible for working with HBSE’s security team to create and maintain an overall safe and secure environment while participating in NBA and/or team sanctioned games, events, and related activities while traveling, at the Wells Fargo Center, and in the greater Philadelphia/New Jersey communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE BELOW:

  • Provide security during team appearances.
  • Attend events hosted by players for security purposes as assigned and/or upon request by individual players.
  • Consult with team members and their family members regarding security issues.
  • Provide support at DMV for driver licenses and automobile registration while also maintaining these documents and others required by the NBA.
  • Assist with background checks for draft and free agent prospects.
  • Schedule and supervise security personnel at home and on the road.
  • Manage communication and develop relationships with federal, state, and local law enforcement, and NBA officials.
  • Help develop and implement security plans as needed to include, but not limited to the following: emergency evacuation plans for 76ers Training Complex and WFC and having all emergency evacuation plans
  • Assist players, coaches and staff with cyber security issues or threats.
  • Ensure the safety and security of players, staff, and company property while traveling.
  • Ensure members of the traveling party are on the airplane and bus at the scheduled time, and no personal items are left behind.
  • Assist Director of Equipment Operations with monitoring all luggage and equipment until it is stored and/or delivered to player/staff rooms upon arrival at the hotel and with all movements on team travel.
  • Ensure security measures for arrival and departure of players, their families, and vehicles.
  • Monitor activity and communication between the fans and players around the bench and in the vicinity of the team bench.
  • Serve the players, coaching staff, travel party, and the entire Basketball Operations department to improve their productivity, comfort, and overall well-being.
  • Anticipate the needs and desires of the players and staff.
  • Think quickly through situations, handle real-time issues and present solutions.
  • Manage stress and defuse conflict discreetly and professionally.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Skilled and experienced in close protection, all modes of transportation, advance team requirements, medical response, understanding protocol and etiquette.
  • Previous security/protection experience required.
  • Ability to recognize and adapt to shifting situations.
  • Resourceful problem-solver who acts quickly to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Possess the ability to read a situation and assess appropriate actions. Must understand the difference between assertiveness, aggression, and the importance of deescalating situations.
  • Have a well-developed sense of self-awareness and self-confidence. Must not overestimate or underestimate their own capabilities.
  • Possess the ability to excel in high-stress situations while also remaining vigilant for long periods of time when nothing is happening. Must convey a calm sense in every scenario.
  • Able to form meaningful connections with people of all backgrounds and find common ground, in addition to building rapport easily.
  • Be an excellent and persuasive communicator.
  • Have initiative, perseverance, and a proactive drive.
  • Understand how to deliver the appropriate level of protection in various and unique environments.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and demonstrate strong teamwork/synergy skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel Requirements: Frequent travel required; trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay for one or more nights.
  • Work Environment: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including events which occur on nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; react quickly and appropriately in various situations; be exposed to loud noises; use computer, telephone, and other security communication devices; write reports; and visually interpret physical surroundings and crowd dynamics.
