POSITION SUMMARYThe histology technician assumes responsibility for the daily routine operation of the lab; including grossing of tissue, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover-slipping; maintenance of histology equipment and processor. They have the ability to maintain quality control and quality assurance of all work performed. This position is responsible for setting up the daily histology workload, access to the LIS (Laboratory Information System), and other ancillary lab duties.
What you will be doing
  • Assume timely and accurate responsibility for the accessioning, grossing, processing, embedding and cutting blocks of all pathology specimens.
  • Assume responsibility for daily participation in the routine operation of the histology laboratory as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.
  • Assume responsibility for trouble shooting of histology equipment and ability to communicate problems to laboratory supervisor.
  • Maintains daily records and equipment maintenance logs as required by CAP/CLIA regulations and policies.
  • Checks all work for accuracy and quality.
  • Data entry for Vital Access Lab information system.
What you will bring to the team
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a Histo- Technologist, working in a pathology laboratory, clinical histology laboratory, and doctor's office.
  • ASCP certification (HT or HTL)
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, CAP and CLIA regulations
  • Experience working with small tissue biopsies
  • Knowledge of PPE and general laboratory safety regulations
