As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will drive complex tools and processes surrounding our Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) cloud-based Payroll and HR products across multiple development, staging and production environments, and provide complex support to development teams producing our software products. You will assist and guide product development teams as they provision, deploy, configure, and monitor the software they create, and partner with other DevOps Engineers to design and improve complex tools and processes that empower teams to work faster and easier on their own.


You will act as a point of contact and liaison to many teams (particularly software development, security, and other TDE teams) to: coordinate the implementation of new applications, features, and environments; upgrade existing systems; troubleshoot and resolve issues, and eliminate their root causes; and implement security measures to keep software development, delivery, and execution fast, safe, and working at top performance.


Who you are:

Engineering is the function that applies principles and techniques of engineering, mathematics, and computer/data science to the design, development, and testing of applications. The Product & Technology engineering family consists of software development, testing, database, devops, virtualization & network.

  • Enthusiastic about automating processes and systems that make it fast and easy to provide great software to our customers
  • Likes interacting with and guiding other teams to ensure they are enabled to do the work they need to do
  • An advocate for good architecture and design patterns and best practices in software delivery and operations
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative, self-motivated, and responsible

During the first six months, you will:

  • Build monitoring that notifies on symptoms of future outages
  • Assist Developer Teams with identifying gaps in terms of visibility and preparedness with future changes
  • Forecast and address future issues with anomaly detection leveraging Observability tools
  • Identify and develop Monitors, Runbooks and SLO’s using the Golden Signal Pillars of Observability
  • Been embedded and collaborate with Developers and Engineers on a Product Team
  • Understand and utilize key metrics and traces from APM & Monitoring Toolsets
  • Effectively deliver medium or large team projects
  • Support, implement, and maintain automated build and deployment pipeline systems; source and artifact repositories; SaaS product environments; issue tracking systems; and application telemetry, monitoring, alerting, and logging platforms. Different sub-teams may put additional emphasis on one or more of the areas above.
  • Perform code reviews and provide consistent, useful and constructive feedback
  • Experience working on logging best practices
  • Recognize and surface risks/unknowns and keep work in line with bigger picture goals
  • Experience working with APIs, Microservices, Serverless, Services
  • Leverage Observability Tooling to address gaps and areas that teams need to leverage with Telemetry (Metrics, Tracing, Logging)
  • Perform on-call duties as a Site Reliability Engineer and Incident Commander
  • Maintain and Implement our Incident Management System

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or 5 years' experience
  • Previous experience (ideally 5+yrs) implementing observability solutions, and maintaining deployment pipelines, developing automated actions, monitoring and alerting solutions
  • Previous experience of 3+ years of Cloud (AWS)
  • Previous experience as a Site Reliability Engineer
  • Participating in technology incidents and performing the duties of an Incident Commander
  • Supporting an Incident Management System
  • Ability to understand a variety of complex architectures
  • A natural problem solver that thinks outside the box, can quickly troubleshoot and remediate complex problems
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and troubleshoot complex issues in production environment
  • Experience with improving Developer Experience automating and ensuring any gaps, bottlenecks are addressed
  • Ability to develop and code a solution that automates manual actions and intervention
  • Experience with managing continuous integration/continuous development pipeline (CD/CD)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including creating documentation for consumption by the enterprise
  • Support incident escalation and troubleshooting with developed tools and runbooks
  • Deep knowledge of version control (git)
  • Demonstrate and automate solutions to address areas that require manual/repetitive tasks
  • Must have a strong sense of curiosity
  • Must be able to work effectively in an agile and team environment
  • Must be able to work and adapt with a wide range of developer and engineering teams
  • Must be effective and creative in problem solving

Technical Experience:

Experience and advanced proficiency with some or all of:

  • Telemetry: Datadog, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, Elasticsearch, Splunk

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $84k - $156k/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here.
