POSITION SUMMARY


The IT Specialist is under the direct supervision of the Director of IT and the indirect supervision of the Tribal Administrator. The incumbent is responsible for installing, modifying and making minor repairs to computer hardware and software systems, and provides technical advice and support to system users.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Identifies and procures the hardware and software needed to satisfy user requirements.
  2. Installs hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers and drivers on users’ premises.
  3. Loads appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components and office applications.
  4. Assisting in the customization and adaption of existing programs to meet user requirements.
  5. Provides telephone, in-person and online support to end-users.
  6. Coordinates activities with network services and information system groups.
  7. Provides updates, status and completion information to manager and/or users, via voice mail, email, or in-person communication.
  8. Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction.
  9. Maintains user network and building access accounts.
  10. Connects users to networks and provides initial training in facilities and applications.
  11. Administers e-mail and anti-virus systems.
  12. Maintains inventory and assets.
  13. Assists in research and procurement of computer accessories and supplies.
  14. Other duties as assigned.


SAFETY

  1. Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to: reporting all incidents and accidents to your supervisor timely (within 24 hours); maintaining work areas in a safe and healthful manner; reporting and correcting any unsafe working conditions; operating vehicles in a safe and lawful manner while conducting Tribal business; providing input and assistance to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards; actively supporting ongoing safety efforts, including recommendations of the safety committee.
  2. Due to the nature of interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. MS degree in Computing Sciences or equivalent with at least two years of experience with at least two years of relevant work experience OR BS degree in Computing Sciences or equivalent with four or more years of relevant work experience. Credit will be given to candidates that do not have the relevant degrees but can demonstrate equivalent work experience of at least 5 years.
  2. Trade certificates in related areas are a plus.
  3. Problem Solving- the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  4. Customer Service-the individual manages difficult customer situations, responds promptly to customer needs and solicits customer feedback to improve service.
  5. Oral Communication- the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrates group presentation skills and conducts meetings.
  6. Quality Management- the individual looks for ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  7. Planning/Organizing- the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
  8. Adaptability- the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  9. Dependability- the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management directions, and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  10. Safety and Security- the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, and uses equipment and material properly.

 


NATIVE PREFERENCE


Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
