What Can You Expect

The Foreman's responsibility is to handle all aspects related to construction personnel and construction equipment management and the decision-making about production daily.

What You Bring to the Table

• Instruct the crew regarding activities installing water pipe, sewer pipe, and manholes
• Pre-planning work for the crew and providing training opportunities
• Overseeing safety procedures, quality of workmanship and production costs
• Leading the morale and attitude of the crew
• Overseeing projects to assure compliance with the scope and quality as established by the contract documents
• Enforcement of site cleanliness, safety, health, and substance abuse programs
• Proactively anticipating and solving problems that could delay construction
• Managing the permit and inspection process and attending or conducting regularly scheduled progress meetings
• Maintaining daily progress reporting and paperwork such as daily reports including pictures of work progress, payroll and equipment time reporting for the crew, field reports, schedule updates and email correspondence to keep the various people involved with the project informed of important issues
• Implementing incremental project schedules that make sure upcoming events are on track and are being proactively addressed
• Responsible for overseeing the safety procedures are followed by field crew as well as other trades at the job site

What You Should Know

• Understands means and methods of construction associated with earthwork, site utility and concrete construction
• Understands the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules
• Understands how to effectively staff self-performed work activities to achieve levels of productivity that meet or exceed industry norms
• Has the ability to understand the function and purpose of the final product. Uses the knowledge to challenge the appropriateness of the work in progress
• Has extensive knowledge of the trades and the work involved, along with an ability to resolve problems with appropriate and timely decisions
• Read and interpret plans, shoot elevations; set up lasers, interpret codes and regulations for permitting purposes
• Must possess a working knowledge of or demonstrate a willingness to learn how to use the following software applications: MS Outlook, Word, Adobe Reader and Viewpoint Field Work Center
