Job Title: Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (ACR) Instructor (FT)

Schedule: Monday-Friday day and evening classes, weekend availability helpfu

Reports To: Site Manager

Summary:

The ACR instructor delivers student-centered HVAC/Refrigeration instruction, including specific hands-on repair and maintenance. The ACR Instructor also provides a positive, supportive, and professional atmosphere to assist students in successfully completing their programs of study. Additional responsibilities include curriculum development and implementation, special projects, classroom upgrades, recommendations on tools and materials, verifying student competencies, student advisement, meeting student retention, maintaining student records, budget management, marketing courses, and maintaining contact with industry subject matter experts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide student-centered instruction and training in both theory and hands-on skills
  • Develop and implement appropriate assignments and student learning assessments
  • Assist in identifying appropriate training modules and incorporating photos from building systems for training
  • Ensure classroom lectures contain essential curriculum components and reflect current industry trends
  • Communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner
  • Advise current and prospective students
  • Participate in and contribute to instructor development activities throughout the year; lead fellow instructors by example
  • Provide follow up coaching to fellow instructors on implementing concepts from training, workshops, and observations
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Facilities team daily

Requirements:

  • Q-01 Refrigerating Operating Engineer Certification from the FDNY
  • EPA Universal certification
  • BPI, GPRO, MFBO/MFBA, LEED AP or other Green Certifications (or the desire to obtain) preferred
  • Proficiency using digital platforms to instruct, communicate, and record program data
  • Ability to understand and complete frequent, routine computer-based tasks
  • High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to instruct students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in residential and commercial Air Conditioning and Refrigeration installation and repair. Experience in the following is helpful:
    1. Heating/Boilers
    2. Electricity
    3. Plumbing
    4. Handyperson
    5. OSHA
    6. Green Buildings/Energy Efficiency
    7. Teaching
