JOB TITLE:              YOUTH SERVICES SUMMER ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT:      LIBRARY

SCHEDULE:            Typically Monday thru Sunday:  10-12 Weeks


Modified:   3-5 days a week within the hours listed below. 

Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 
Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 
Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. 

*With additional hours required as needed.


Compensation Rate: -$11.00 per hour

                                   

Description of Responsibilities Include:


The Youth Services Summer Assistant aids in the circulation procedures of Upper St. Clair Township Library. The Youth Services Summer Assistant reports to the Head of Youth Services and Youth Services Librarian.  The ideal candidate is an active library user and familiar with the library services.


Specific Responsibilities* Include:


  • Processing library material returns.
  • Shelving library returns and general shelf management.
  • Checking out library materials to patrons.
  • Assisting with program preparation materials as needed.
  • Answering questions both at in person service points and over the telephone.
  • Cooperating and communicating with Youth Services staff to efficiently run the checkout desk area.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  

Necessary Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Desired education level: rising high school seniors to rising college seniors.
  • Strong interest in library services to children and/or active library user and familiar with the services of the Upper St. Clair Township Library.
  • Ability to express thoughts clearly through oral and written communication.
  • Excellent computer competency.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze comprehensive reports.
  • Must be able to lift and carry books and other library materials.


Tools and Equipment Used:


  • Requires frequent use of computer, including Sierra Circulation software, telephone system, and copier.
