DEPARTMENT: Housekeeping

LOCATION: Primarily stationed at Hattiesburg Zoo & Serengeti Springs; but work requires travel

to all Hattiesburg Convention Commission (HCC) facilities. These include the Lake Terrace Convention

Center, the Hattiesburg Visitors Center, Saenger Theater, and the Sixth Street Museum District.

SHIFT: Full-time; Varies - due to the irregular schedule of the Event Services industry, hours may

fall in varying patterns even within the work week. Holidays and weekends are often busy times

for events and the housekeeping staff must be flexible and reliable. May work long hours to meet

clients’ timetable requirements.

REPORTS TO: Housekeeping Manager

SUMMARY: Supervises and directs housekeepers on shifts, locations, or specific tasks where the

Housekeeping Manager is not present. Also performs cleaning, janitorial tasks, and minor repairs.

Provides porter service during events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Confers daily with Housekeeping Manager to review assignments.

• Supervises and directs all housekeeping staff when the manager is not present; reports all issues or problems that arise on such occurrences to the manager.

• Performs tasks as required or assigned. These include but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, vacuuming, spot cleaning, stripping and waxing of floors.

• Researches, orders and maintains necessary housekeeping equipment and supplies. Advises manager when equipment malfunctions.

• Notes and reports any building components in need of repair.

• Makes minor repairs such as painting, patching, replacement of light fixtures, and filters as required.

• Makes daily inspection of areas of responsibility before meeting with the manager.

• Maintains a written inspection log.

• Assists other facility personnel as directed.

• Carries an operational two-way radio at all times.

• Carries out pre-event inspection. Designs and maintains a written checklist on a pre-event basis.

• Performs event clean-up as required.

• Insures facilities are cleaned and vacuumed; furniture dusted, chairs and tables arranged as requested.

• Provides housekeeping and porter service during events.

• Advises manager immediately of any damages resulting from an event.

• Performs other duties, functions and special projects as assigned by the Housekeeping Manager. Run errands when needed; travel required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Work Experience

• Two years experience with housekeeping of a public assembly facility or a related industry. Formal training in current housekeeping procedures and practices preferred.

• Combination of education/experience may be evaluated.

Essential Job Qualifications

• Must retain a valid Driver’s License and meet the eligibility requirements to drive while conducting company business.

• Must have transportation for required travel.

Physical Requirements:

• Tolerance to work under adverse conditions such as among dust, dirt, and cleaning agent odors and outdoors in EXTREME heat and cold.

• Able to read fine print such as labels.

• Able to speak and hear to converse in person and on telephone.

• Body mobility and stamina to bend, squat, lift, reach, carry, stand and walk for long periods of time.

• Must be able to lift up to 20lbs.

• Sufficient manual dexterity to operate small tools.

Knowledge and Skills

• Must be able to supervise a diverse work group and delegate tasks.

• Perform routine and repetitive tasks without immediate supervision.

• Read and write.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff and facility users.
