After School Club Teacher 

Under the management of the after school club coordinator and in collaboration with AFIA’s current afterschool staff, the after school club teachers will facilitate enriching after school clubs. This person will take a key role in facilitating an after school club that is enriching for students.  These clubs will also provide opportunities for students and families to connect with one another outside of school time. 


We will kick off the fall round of clubs on October 10th. Clubs will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:05 - 5:00. We ask that all teachers arrive by 3:45 to help with a smooth dismissal.  There will be ten meetings.

The ten meetings will be held: March 5th, 7th, 12th, 14th, 19, 21 and April 2, 4th, 9th, 11th


In the application, we ask that you provide the following information:

  • Updated resume 
  • Proposed name for the club
  • A short description of the club (7 - 10 sentences)
  • Suggested age range for club (AFIA is a 1st - 6th grade school)
  • Idea for a culminating event with families on the final day of the club
  • A list of any materials you will need for the club. AFIA will provide materials for this club. 


Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain careful supervision for children at all times. 
  • Actively participate and supervise children’s activities at all times.
  • Arrive on time and be prepared with age appropriate activity plans and materials before the arrival of the students.
  • Communicate with a kind, respectful tone and language to children, their families and co-workers.
  • Follow basic health and safety procedures.
  • Greet families and children in a kind, caring and friendly way. 
  • Provide a creative, fun, imaginative and educational experience. 
  • Encourage children to work together and resolve conflicts in a positive manner.
  • Assist with and daily program setup/cleanup.
  • Maintain all required documentation, including daily attendance reports and all other required documentation (i.e., incident/injury reports, etc.)
  • Assume other duties as requested.


Teachers and assistant teachers of AFIA will:

  • Have a strong urban serving mission
  • Value the power of school in changing and improving children’s lives
  • Have a strong understanding of and ability to implement constructivism
  • Value the presence and the voice of students’ families as partners in the school
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be able to work collaboratively with others in a team environment
  • Be a reflective practitioner, committed to continual growth as an assistant teacher


Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a GED or high school diploma.* 
  • Experience working with school age and/or middle school youth; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must successfully pass a background check. 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • 60 College Hours or Passed the Para Pro Assessment 
  • The ideal applicant will have experience working with children in a school setting.
