Position Summary:

This is a full-time entry level position and all required training, Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE), test equipment, and navigation devices are provided. The candidate will travel throughout National Grid (NY) service territories with the possibility of additional areas depending on work requirements to provide a variety of field tests relating to cathodic protection on gas service lines. Gas, mileage, and tolls are compensated for the use of their personal vehicle for the first 3 months of employment. After the first three months, the employee will be eligible for a company vehicle.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Use test instruments to perform a variety of field tests to include AC/DC voltage and current measurements, structure-to-soil potential measurements, soil resistivity measurements and pipe and cable locating.
  • Perform periodic surveys to determine the effectiveness of Corrosion Control systems.
  • Conduct tests to identify shorts and continuity in Corrosion Control systems.
  • Properly maintain and use test equipment.
  • Accurately record all survey results. Be able to identify errors in data collection and measurements, including contact resistance.
  • Conduct oneself professionally during interactions with client representatives and the public.

Position Qualifications:

  • Must have valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  • Must have the ability to walk 1-5 miles daily.
  • Must be self-motivating and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Must be capable of working outdoors in various types of weather and terrain, including urban, suburban, rural, and unmaintained wooded right of ways.
  • Possess the ability to read a map and use basic computer/phone technology.
  • Ability to report to jobsite daily and travel to a new location upon request as needed throughout New York state and possibly Massachusetts.
