Position Summary:
The purpose of this role is to support, guide, educate, and prepare individuals that are interested in becoming foster, adoptive, kinship, and/or respite caregivers. As a trainer, the employee will be competent in teaching a variety of curriculums that are required and/or recommended by the Children’s Division and partnering agencies. The training is provided, but further the comprehension and application of the material is thoroughly discussed and evaluated.
As an assessor, the employee conducts a comprehensive home study. It involves multiple interviews in the home of the potential caregiver. Many aspects of the family and home are evaluated, such as: their “why” or motivation for becoming a licensed caregiver, the family history and dynamics, support systems, safe and suitable environment, and parenting style and skills. Along with the interviews, the employee will be requesting and gathering all the required documentation for licensure, such as background checks, medical evaluations, personal and professional references.
In this role, the employee must have a comprehensive understanding at the fundamental level of Children’s Division’s licensing policies and procedures. Family Development has the unique responsibility of providing services to both the licensing agencies and the families. It is imperative we meet the needs of both clients. · Curriculums include specialized training adapted to the needs of the children and caregivers.
Assess Prospective Caregivers:
· Conduct comprehensive assessments of prospective foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers to evaluate their suitability for providing a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for children in care.
· Assess applicants' parenting skills, emotional readiness, motivation, and ability to meet the unique needs of children who have experienced trauma or adversity.
· Collaborate with other professionals, such as social workers, psychologists, and medical professionals, to gather relevant information and make informed recommendations regarding applicants' suitability as a caregiver and provider.
Maintain Records and Documentation:
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of training attendance, assessments, case notes, and other relevant documentation in accordance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
· Prepare written reports and recommendations based on assessments and observations of prospective and current caregivers, ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity to sensitive information.
Collaboration:
· Collaborate with Children’s Division, licensing agencies, courts, and other community partners to ensure coordinated and comprehensive support for foster, adoptive, and kinship families.
· Offer ongoing support in the continuum of care within our agency.
· Refer to support groups, workshops, and peer mentoring programs to foster a sense of community and mutual support among foster, adoptive, and kinship families.
