VGS is currently looking for a Bridge Maintenance Foreman to fill a full-time role in Miami, FL. The position will oversee the day-to-day operations on a project site and perform supervisory duties, including directing a crew of personnel and assigned equipment in a designated area of the project. The Bridge Foreman will be responsible for the safety and supervision of all bridge maintenance personnel on an assigned project site.

All employees must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.*

Responsibilities:

  • Strong knowledge of bridge construction and repair
  • Working knowledge of FDOT bridge standards and procedures
  • Sate construction techniques, fall protection fall restraint
  • Working knowledge of sate maintenance of traffic and temporary traffic control measures
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Record the bridge repair means and methods
  • Prioritize repairs based on client due dates
  • Secure materials needed for repairs
  • Line up jobs for bridge forces, oversee their work
  • Assist Roadway Maintenance with various projects
  • Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts
  • Performs other duties as required

Additional responsibilities may include and not limited to the following:

  • Build job-specific forms
  • Set and tie steel, as required
  • Erect and wreck all forms
  • Pour, grade and finish concrete
  • Load and unload materials
  • Shovel dirt, gravel, and asphalt
  • Install joint sealant
  • Perform general housekeeping and clean-up of the job site
  • Check and maintain grade stakes and other survey markings
  • Maintain equipment and tools
  • Maintain material inventory
  • Enter confined spaces, as required
  • Operate a man-lift, snooper
  • Rigging

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years or more of industry related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.
  • Willingness to work multiple shifts and varying hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime
  • Physical Demands: The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Bridge Foreman to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    1. Constant physical effort including standing is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
    2. Work is often performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds often with narrow steps and passageways.
    3. Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
    4. Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
    5. Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.
    6. Physical dexterity to pour, grade and finish concrete, involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
    7. Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
    8. Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
    9. Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, using ladders or crawling, as required.
    10. Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees flight, darkness, and weather conditions.
    11. Capable of safely and productively operating a man-lift.
    12. Ability to maintain balance while working on watercraft or other surfaces.
    13. Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
  • Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Bridge Foreman encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    1. Work is performed on in-service highway bridges outdoors in all weather conditions.
    2. Work environment periodically exposes the employees to elevated levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
    3. Employee works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
    4. Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
