- Evaluation/Re-evaluation: Assess clients' functional abilities, including physical, emotional, cognitive, and sensory components to determine the need for skilled occupational therapy intervention. Develop treatment plans based on clients' history, context, and goals for treatment.
- Treatment: Provide therapeutic interventions, including neuromuscular reeducation, therapeutic activity, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, self-care/home management training, cognitive skill development, sensory integration techniques, wheelchair management, and wound care. Utilize modalities such as biofeedback, paraffin baths, whirlpools, iontophoresis, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound.
- Discharge: Ensure clients' safety at discharge and facilitate continuation of progress through home exercise programs, family/caregiver instruction, recommendations for assistive equipment, and referrals for continued therapy in a less restrictive setting. Collaborate with physicians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals for discharge planning and coordination.
- Supervision: Provide supervision to occupational therapy assistants, occupational therapy aides, and occupational therapy students in accordance with professional standards and regulations.
- Contribution to healthcare team: Maintain effective communication through accurate documentation and charting. Protect patient confidentiality, maintain a safe and clean work environment, and adhere to infection control and safety policies.
- Maintenance of the occupational therapy department's integrity: Stay updated on professional expertise through continued education. Review best practices for the development of the occupational therapy department. Comply with federal and state professional requirements.
- A minimum of two years of experience in occupational therapy
- Valid license to provide occupational therapy in the state of employment
- Administer and evaluate standardized assessments
- Select and oversee evidence-based interventions
- Effective documentation of the occupational therapy process in compliance with regulations
