Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Human Resource Assistant is responsible for performing HR- related duties on a professional level and will work closely with the accounting department. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruitment/employment, onboarding, policy implementation, benefits, employee and Union relations and employee law compliance. Additional duties for this office will include company bookkeeping, AR and AP.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Handle the day-to-day operations of the HR Department
- Assist with the recruiting and on boarding process
- Maintains and processes all Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges in a timely, efficient manner.
- Monitors tardy and absenteeism reports and ensure proper documentation is issued on employees who have excessive tardiness or absenteeism problems.
- Acts as an employee and Union relations specialist
- Assist/lead the development of HR processes, policies and systems
- Liaise with employees, supervisors, managers, co-workers, Union reps in problem resolution
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations
- Ensures compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; Periodically audits Forms I-9
- Distribute and monitors employee performance evaluations and ensures they are done in a timely manner
- Handles employee relations matters including performance improvement plan development, investigations and Union related issues
- Reports, maintains and monitors all workers' compensation case file; follows up on open cases
- Monitors employee eligibility for benefits plans. Reviews benefits with employee and processes enrollment, cancellation or changes.
- Organizes and manages annual open enrollment communications and election process. Maintains and distributes list of new and cancelled employee under each benefit plan.
- Every Monday, calculate each associates' actual work time according to the ADP time sheet
- Report payroll information to Accounting for payroll
- Manage and report 401K
- Manage all the information updates to 401K system
- Administers COBRA for group health plans
- Enters account deposits and payables
- Perform other duties as assigned
JOB Requirements: - Associates degree in Human Resources or related field, preferred
- 3-5 years of HR experience including 2 years direct involvement in employee relations
- Strong interpersonal, communication, follow-up, problem solving and creative thinking skills
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task with attention to detail
- Proficient with MS Word & Excel
- ADP and QuickBooks Knowledge preferred
- Self-motivated, team player with excellent people skills.
