This underwriter serves as the primary decision-maker for indirect loan requests received from dealerships. This role involves evaluating loan applications, making informed decisions, and providing guidance on loan-related inquiries. The underwriter also plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing relationships with dealerships while ensuring compliance with company standards and regulations.
This will be a hybrid opportunity and require working Saturdays.
Requirements:Essential Duties
- Responsible for upholding Credit Union of Georgia brand standards including following all of the steps of our unique member experience and to Engage, Ask, Solve and Excite and deliver top level member service.
- Primarily responsible for underwriting indirect loans while also supporting direct loan underwriting.
- Receive, review, and decide on loan applications from indirect automobile dealers and branch staff.
- Evaluate and verify loan applications and creditworthiness by calculating debt ratios, verifying employment and income, and determining collateral value.
- Approve, deny, or counter loans within the authority limits and communicate conditions of approval or denial clearly to dealers or branch personnel.
- Maintain positive and productive business relationships with dealerships, third-party vendors (such as CRIF Select), and other relevant vendors.
- Respond to and resolve Problem Resolutions escalated by loan processing.
- Assist in daily oversight of indirect lending reports such as ensuring FASB records are correct, managing the dealer chargeback process, monitoring payoff reports
- Foster and enhance relationships with dealerships by engaging in a manner consistent with the Credit Union’s business values.
- Monitor pending deals for funding; communicating with dealers and processing teams to expedite funding.
- First point of contact responding in a timely manner to dealership phone calls and emails.
- Review and validate reports as directed by management, engaging, and partnering with other departments as needed.
- Support loan processing by conducting quality control reports and reviewing documents as needed for indirect loans and accounts.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company policies, NCUA guidelines, and federal and state regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
- Maintain effective communication with management, dealerships, and staff.
- Assist in training lending staff, complete reports accurately and on time, and attend necessary meetings.
- Support the Indirect Lending Manager in oversight, maintenance, and project management tasks.
- Follow security and loss prevention procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Two years to five years financial institution experience required.
- Loan/Member Service experience required.
- Prior lending experience at a financial institution required – credit union experience preferred.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of Credit Union / Financial Institution education and/or experience required.
