Objective

The Foreman performs supervisory, administrative and professional work in planning, organizing, directing and supervising a construction crew. The Foreman manages field operations on the project(s) assigned in order to achieve timely and profitable completion of each project. This position directly field labor force such as laborers/craft workers. This position must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as have strong communication and client service skills.

Essential Functions

  • Read and fully understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Set grade stakes, slope stakes, and cut/fill stakes.
  • Effectively communicate to crew members daily and weekly production goals.
  • Effectively manage your crew and make necessary modifications to maximize production.
  • Work cooperatively with other foremen or superintendents on the same site to insure efficient progression of the project.
  • Set up pipe laser properly and recognize then the laser is not functioning properly.
  • Calculate slope percentages and verify accuracy against design.
  • Check drawings for potential conflicts in underground utility crossings.
  • Properly complete manhole / structure construction, including proper stair alignment, sealing structure joints and penetrations, and proper invert construction.
  • Properly set and seal castings on structures (i.e. hooded grate inlets, rings & covers.
  • Accurately set storm and sanitary structures to proper grades and alignment.
  • Properly install ductile iron and pvc waterline and fittings.
  • Accurately perform required testing on water lines, sewer lines, and manholes.
  • Work cooperatively with other foremen or superintendents on the same site to insure efficient progression of the project.
  • Keep accurate documentation of daily production, equipment delays, delays on the project due to unforeseen circumstances, and changes to the scope of work.
  • Track and manage materials and rental equipment used on the project (i.e. Stone, rental pumps, contract trucks, etc.)
  • Properly place fill as to promote positive site drainage and minimal erosion areas.
  • Properly monitor, document, and remediate site erosion areas.
  • Insure a safe working environment at all times for all activities.
  • Develop a cooperative working environment between the labor force on the project.
  • Maintain a high level of morale in the workforce on the project.
  • Communicate effectively with and implement the requirements of the geotechnical testing firm for the project, as well as the inspectors for the municipal companies involved.
  • Represent T.E. Stevens in a professional manner, both on and off the project, in appearance, attitude, and work habits.
  • Maintain a clean and organized project site at all times.
  • Teach the workforce how to effectively and productively perform the tasks required.
  • Report field time daily and accurately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2+ years' experience in Bridge/Heavy Civil Infrastructure or Heavy/ Highway construction industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards.
  • Willingness to learn everything related to project specific documents including blue prints, schedules, standard plans and specifications.
  • Ability to keep records and to prepare work and time reports.
  • Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and clearly communicate instructions to crew.
  • Through knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work being performed
  • Strong client relation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Supervisory Responsibility

The position directly supervises field employees including Operators and Laborers. This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
