Position Location: N Charleston
FLSA Status (Exempt/Non-Exempt): Exempt
Position Summary:
The QC Chemist III primarily responsible for the quality control of starting materials, in-process materials and the finished goods. The incumbent must be a dynamic individual who can work in a diversified group and able to handle multi-tasks within QC operations. The candidate must possess a good working knowledge of Analytical Chemistry. This position requires hands on chemistry lab work and troubleshoot instruments and solve complex spectroscopic problems.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform the daily Production Quality Control (QC) work of raw materials, in-process materials and the finished goods, providing technical support and reviewing work outputs when needed.
• Work closely with QC Lab Manager(s) at all levels to ensure product quality and delivery schedules meet customer specifications and expectations
• Develop new methods for new products together with the QC team and design chemists.
• Operate ICP-OES, ICP-MS, IC, and GC instruments
• Troubleshoot production issues that exhibit special process problems by working closely with Inorganic Lab Manager.
• Adhere to all safety, quality, process, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to various regulatory and internal system requirements
• Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication. Communicate exceptions to established/agreed upon schedules to all affected parties internal and external.
• Assist in the training of new lab personnel and help maintain training records
• Adhere to all safety, quality, process, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to various regulatory and internal system requirements
• Adhere to inventory management policies, procedures and practices to ensure uninterrupted flow of material in support of production build schedules
• Communicate exceptions to established/agreed upon schedules to all affected parities internal and external.
• Actively participate with internal support organizations to ensure product quality and delivery schedules meet customer specifications and expectations
• Identify, define and support intra/inter departmental continuous improvement activities/initiatives to successfully support operations and the corporate strategic vision
• Will work with management on continuous improvement in the laboratory and help implement 5S/Lean initiatives
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field. Higher education degrees in Analytical Chemistry preferred.
• Up to 5 years laboratory experience of methods development experience and instrumentation operation experience on ICP-OES, ICP-MS, AA, IC, and GC, is required.
• Be proficient with the instrumental analysis and data interpretation.
• Previous project management experience is a plus.
• Strong working knowledge on extensive data processing and reviewing
• Solid knowledge on general quality control procedures and methodologies.
• Hands on experience in sample preparation for analytical testing
• Good computer skills (requiring Microsoft Word, Excel, and LIMS) and mathematics background is required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and people skills. Must read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Self-motivated, multi-tasking, ability to work alone, or in a team.
• Ability to analysis and solve problems.
• Methodical and pays attention to detail.
• Knowledgeable/familiarity in the areas of Lean Manufacturing, statistical process control (SPC) is a plus.
• Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works under pressure, within deadlines or other time essential constraints
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate to all levels of the organization
• Strong work ethic and an ability to excel within a rapidly changing and growing organization
• Self-motivated individual who possesses the ability to analyze, organize, plan, prioritize assignments, multi-task and achieve results through process focused production
