We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team.  This position will be primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and estimating mechanical aspects of construction projects as directed by the Preconstruction Manager or Senior Estimator.

 

Preconstruction & Estimating Support:

 

  • Provide detailed mechanical estimates at all stages of design/drawing progression. Reviews proposal specifications, and drawings and attends pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
  • Perform initial system selection, sizing, and layout based on client needs early in the design process to establish appropriate mechanical budgets
  • Attend site visits as necessary to evaluate existing conditions. Perform existing system/facility reviews & inspections to aid in estimating efforts.
  • Perform constructability reviews of progress and construction drawings.
  • Prepares estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with material and equipment suppliers.
  • Reviews terms and conditions of subcontractor and vendor quotes. Provides support during the contract & buyout stage.
  • Develops design build & plan/spec mechanical bid packages.
  • Develop mechanical bid tally & scope review worksheets at GMP to assist with bid leveling and ensure appropriate subcontractor scope.
  • Assists with budgeting and buyout of mechanical scopes during hard-bid pursuits.
  • Maintains files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers.
  • Maintain estimating software data to ensure current labor and material costs.
  • Reviews all pricing with the Preconstruction Manager & Director of MEPF Services
  • Uses historical unit price and productivity data to develop SF estimates as required.
  • Provides technical support to personnel preparing estimates for assigned bids
  • Participates in presentations to clients (if required)
  • Visits project sites to observe construction methods
  • Ensures all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures
  • Participates in project hand-off meetings; attends meetings with suppliers and subs (as needed)
  • Communicates and reinforces the Company vision, values, and goals
  • Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction

 

For the ideal candidate the following items may be considered as part of the position responsibilities:


Construction & Operations Support:

 

  • Assist project teams in the MEPF Coordination effort. Establish and maintain 2D and 3D MEP coordination protocols. Set project expectations, assign roles, and establish coordination schedules. Review drawings and 3D models for clash detection
  • Assist in schedule and phasing plan development for MEPF trades
  • Review, refute or justify subcontractor change orders as required by project teams. Perform quantitative takeoffs for validation
  • Assist with submittal, RFI, and change order review for MEPF disciplines
  • Perform on-site inspections to ensure quality, material, and layout of systems meet expectations and design intent
  • Provide assistance and insight to address MEPF issues as they arise during construction
  • Assist with startup issues and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment
  • Develop equipment-specific startup checklists
  • Assist project teams during commissioning and help to resolve issues
  • Manage and resolve mechanical warranty issues as they arise


Essential Skills and Experience:


  • 4-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience
  • A minimum of 2-5+ years estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience (at least 3 years estimating experience in mechanical construction is desired)
  • Experience beyond that listed above, whether mechanical estimating or
  • Experience with estimating software, Timberline, On-Screen Take-off, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced knowledge of construction procedures, estimating techniques, mechanical engineering disciplines, cost control systems, and accounts required.
  • Advanced engineering, math, and computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
