Established in 1967, Pathology and Cytology Laboratories LLC, in collaboration with Chipps, Caffrey & Dubilier, P.S.C., specializes in Anatomic Pathology, Cytopathology, Hematopathology, GI Pathology, Clinical Laboratory Consultations, and Laboratory Medical Directorships, ensuring excellence in healthcare provision to physicians, clinics, and hospitals.

Summary: The Compliance and HIPAA Officer designs and implements OSHA-compliant safety programs to reduce workplace accidents. Their duties include policy development, safety inspections, and training. They also oversee compliance, HIPAA, and privacy programs, ensuring effective organization-wide coordination. With authority to review documents, they ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, including those regarding referrals and payments. Monitoring and planning for ongoing compliance efforts are also key responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

  • Laboratory certification preferred.
  • 2-5 years' experience working with accrediting agencies and standards such as CAP, TJC, COLA, and CLIA.
  • 5-10 years' experience in laboratory or pathology operations.
  • Proven experience with inspections and inspection teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with EPA and OSHA regulations.
  • Proficiency in utilizing and developing various Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Some background in Six Sigma training and experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with CDC and OSHA requirements, ensuring compliance with current standards and regulations.
  • Create procedures and forms for internal reporting of compliance with safety protocols, program violations, accidents, and injuries.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other OSHA-related forms, conducting yearly reviews and periodic revisions to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Analyze workforce accidents and injuries to identify areas for process improvement, communication enhancements, or additional training.
  • Chair the Safety Committee, providing regular updates, incident reports, and concerns on a quarterly basis.
  • Serve as the organization's liaison with OSHA, overseeing program changes during implementation.
  • Develop and conduct safety training for new and existing employees, including fire extinguisher, fire drill, and chemical spill training.
  • Conduct monthly checks of all fire extinguishers and quarterly checks of eye wash stations.
  • Perform yearly workplace hazard assessments and ensure workplace facilities meet health and safety requirements.
  • Oversee Hazardous Waste and Medical Waste disposal programs.
  • Independently investigate and address compliance-related matters, including internal investigations and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain compliance, HIPAA, and Privacy policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with state, federal, and private payer standards.
  • Periodically revise program policies to stay compliant with changing standards and regulations, as well as changes within the organization.
  • Coordinate and participate in educational and training programs focusing on compliance elements.
  • Inform physicians of compliance program standards regarding coding, billing, and marketing.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to monitor billing activities and information system user audits in accordance with regulations.
  • Encourage reporting of suspected fraud and other improprieties without fear of retaliation.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with accreditation agencies.
  • Conduct periodic information system user audits in accordance with CFR §164.308.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
