Lateral Transfer to Police Officer I, II, or Corporal/PO III will be considered

The Tooele City Police Department is seeking experienced lateral transfer officers, certifiable officers, or current POST cadets to fill an immediate opening and to create a roster for future openings with the department. If you are not already a POST LEO graduate, apply under our Police Cadet opening.

We recognize you have a choice of where to serve in the competitive labor market. Here's why it's a great idea to join us:

  • You'll work for an agency with strong support for law enforcement from the Mayor on down;
  • You will be well equipped and trained;
  • Our officers work in a new police station where every step in the design and construction process has considered functionality and safety. The address is 50 N. Garden Street, so our HR office has officially nicknamed our new location as "Tooele Five-O." Come be part of the excitement;
  • For pay purposes, we offer lateral transfers year-for-year credit in full year increments for your sworn LEO experience.
  • You can view our Salary Schedule on the City's website under the human resource department and compensation tabs. You can also contact the HR department to obtain an estimate of pay.
  • Tooele City covers a substantial portion of your retirement benefits, including costs that other agencies might require officers to pay themselves;
  • We offer a student loan repayment program to help you pay off student loan debt from your college education or debt you incurred to attend POST;
  • Most importantly, it's about the people Ask our officers, there is just something special about the men and women you work with.

If this doesn't entice you, here's a few more reasons:

  • Tooele City was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of America's top ten 'Friendliest Cities' and by AARP's Livability Index for the degree to which we embrace diversity and offer opportunities to residents of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Located just 30 miles west of Salt Lake City, we are nestled at the base of the beautiful Oquirrh Mountain range. Our community provides quick access to the metropolitan area and a rural, hometown feel.

Our 40 police officers service a population of 37,000 and a geographic area of 24 square miles.

Described as a medium-size organization, officers responded to approximately 15,000 calls last year representing diversity in the requests for police services. We are a busy department.

Our organization sets a standard of unwavering integrity and ethical conduct. We value the camaraderie and trust that exists among fellow officers, the weight placed on family and work balance, and a culture that emphasizes officer safety at the forefront of our actions. Police officers are well trained, well equipped, and highly motivated to relentlessly pursue crime while honoring the Constitutional rights of our citizens.
