WAGE RANGE: $19.25-$25.10/hourly

JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities is looking for a culturally aware, trauma-informed, dynamic, and self-motivated individual to be an on-call/casual mental health practitioner I at its Wilder Day Treatment Center.

The Mental Health Practitioner is directly responsible to the Unit Manager, receives supervision and direction from the Mental Health Services Supervisor and is a part of the program's treatment team overseen by the Senior Program Manager.

The Mental Health Practitioner’s primary responsibility is to maintain a safe, healthy, respectful, and therapeutic milieu in which clients can grow and through which individual treatment plans can be implemented.

The Mental Health Practitioner is specifically responsible for planning, participating, and executing scheduled services and activities.

On-call/casual staff are required to pick up a minimum of one shift per pay period to remain on staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Milieu management:
    1. Actively supervise all clients. Anticipate and plan for challenges and concerns.
    2. Provide structure, routine, limits, and expectations consistently and predictability in conjunction with peers to facilitate a sense of security and safety to clients and staff in environment.
    3. Adhere to agency-approved training for de-escalation and physical intervention.
  2. Relationship Building:
    1. Demonstrate the skills of professional youth care work including engagement, understanding, sensitivity, rapport building, creative problem solving, and attunement to needs.
  3. Skills Training:
    1. Plan, participate in, and execute individual and group skills training that meets the clients’ social, emotional, and developmental needs as well as meets expectations of Skills Training set by supervisory team.
    2. Actively assist and encourage clients to engage, regulate and apply newly learned skills. Praise clients for positive efforts.
    3. Incorporate philosophies, language, concepts, and interventions associated with Models of Care.
  4. Data collection and monitoring:
    1. Participate in the assessment and documentation of progress towards client’s treatment goals; make recommendations to existing and future goals based on client’s needs.
    2. Responsible for promptly and accurately collecting, entering, managing, and reporting of client data into systems of record.
  5. Communication and Collaboration:
    1. Effectively communicate and collaborate with peers, school staff, therapists, supervisors, program manager, OGS, caregiver/guardians, case workers and other professionals via direct communication and email.
    2. Regularly attend and actively participate in all meetings including clinical supervision, consultations, and team meetings.
  6. Health and wellbeing:
    1. Assure and supervise individual medical needs of children including the administration of medications and treatment in accordance with instructions from the medical staff.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERTISE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or related field from accredited college/university and meets either:
    1. Has at least 2000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health services to recipients with mental illness.
    2. Or is fluent in the non-English language of the cultural group to which at least 50% of the practitioners’ recipients, completes 40 hours of training in the delivery of services to recipients with mental illness, and receives clinical supervision from a mental health professional at least once a week until the requirements of 2000 hours of supervised experience are met.
    3. Or has at least 6000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health services to recipients with mental illness.
    4. Or is a graduate student in one of the mental health professional disciplines and is formally assigned by accredited college/university to an agency or facility for clinical training.
    5. Or holds a master’s or other graduate degree in one of the mental health professional disciplines from an accredited college/university.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of current insurance coverage.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Ability to work with those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, mental illness, or low-income populations.
