Salary Range: $14 - $16 DOQ

Reports to: SRJC Superintendent/SRJC Camp Supervisor

Date: February 2024

Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the SRJC Camp Supervisor, the Camp Counselor will provide a safe and fun environment for children with disabilities while participating in camp activities.

Essential Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential duties.

  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors, camp staff, participants, and families
  • Directly responsible for the safety and supervision of camp participants
  • Implement daily program plans
  • Actively participate in all camp activities, including swimming
  • Complete daily reports for participants
  • Assist with daily living skills
  • Maintain a positive environment
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for children to learn and grow.
  • Maintain program supplies and equipment
  • Enforce policies, rules, and safety regulations.
  • Drive a Joliet Park District vehicle when necessary

Hours

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Summer, seasonal position end of May through end of July.

Work Environment

This job will be performed indoors in a temperature controlled setting. At times, job tasks will include participating outdoors with varying weather conditions. Work environment may be loud at times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift, move and set up program supplies/equipment. Must be able to perform assigned tasks.

Education and Experience

A High School Diploma or GED required.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and be at least 18 years of age to drive a company vehicle. Illinois Graduated Driver License rules will apply
  • Must complete DCFS Mandated Reporter Training upon hire
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
