Cal-Wood History and Mission: Cal-Wood has provided residential environmental and outdoor education programs to hundreds of thousands of Coloradans since 1982 at our 1,200-acre classroom located west of Boulder, Colorado. Cal-Wood's mission is to offer unique outdoor educational experiences to all ages, including those who would not otherwise experience nature, through our Residential Science School Program, Summer Camps, Latino Family Camps, and High School Students Research Programs. Cal-Wood has received several national and local awards because of our quality programs and our service to linguistically diverse audiences.
Position Overview: The Development and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in the creation and implementation of Cal-Wood’s fundraising strategies and communication plans. This individual will work closely with the Director of Development and Communications to engage donors, manage fundraising events, and enhance Cal-Wood’s visibility through various communication channels.
Job Duties:
- Fundraising and Donor Relations:
- Assist in developing and executing annual fundraising plans.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors.
- Manage donor database and ensure accurate records of contributions.
- Assist with the preparation of grant proposals and reports for foundations and other funders.
- Coordinate and manage fundraising events and campaigns.
- Communications:
- Help develop and implement communication strategies to promote Cal-Wood’s mission and programs.
- Create content for newsletters, social media, website, and press releases.
- Manage Cal-Wood’s social media presence and engage with online community.
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication platforms.
- Design and distribute promotional materials for events and programs.
- Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, media, and stakeholders.
- Represent Cal-Wood at community events, meetings, and other public engagements.
- Collaborate with program staff to gather stories and data for communication purposes.
- Assist in developing and maintaining partnerships to enhance Cal-Wood’s outreach and impact.
- Administrative Support:
- Assist with budgeting and financial tracking for development activities.
- Provide administrative support to the Director of Development and Communications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Communication.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- At least 3 years of experience in fundraising, communications, or a related area.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and community partners.
- Proficiency in using social media, email marketing, and content management systems.
- Experience with donor management software and database systems.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A deep commitment to the mission and values of our organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
- Initiative to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Google Drive, Docs, and Forms required.
Working Schedule: This position is part time, 15-25 hours each week, with the option to be full time dependent upon the applicant’s skillset. The coordinator can work remotely when not required to be onsite for events or meetings.
Special Requirements: Weekend and evening hours are required. Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check. A reliable vehicle and confidence with mountain driving is required.
Starting Date: Flexible, until position is filled but no later than July 15, 2024.
Salary: $23-25/hour depending on experience. Benefits available for full-time employees.
