JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant will be part of our finance department and reports to the Vice President. This role will be integral in keeping the general ledger data efficiently and accurately, participating in the month-end close process and reviewing financial statements. They will support all aspects of multi-state payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees for the company. They will assist with responding to inquiries from employees and internal departments related to Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking issues, and will ensure that pay is processed in compliance with government and company regulations. To be successful in this role, you should have excellent time management, communication, and analytical skills with an eye for details and the ability to spot numerical errors. They should develop strong relationships with coworkers and managers and work as a subject matter professional on payroll functions and issues.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Prepare financial statements and produce budgets according to schedule
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals/deferrals, and Balance Sheet reconciliations
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Assist with preparing and filing tax returns with outside CPA
- Enter accounting related information into business logs
- Inspect account books for efficiency and accuracy
- Organize and update financial records
- Recommend ways to reduce costs and enhance revenue
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Assist in processing multi-state exempt and non-exempt weekly, biweekly and off-cycle checks for salaried and hourly paid employees in accordance with Payroll schedules and based on department SOPs
- Support reconciling payrolls before transmission via validation reports utilizing intermediate to advanced excel skills
- Provide guidance with the payroll General Ledger- journal entries and account reconciliations
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including working on projects and initiatives to meet department or company goals
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited university
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Full cycle accounting
- Experience in processing payroll and handling payroll related issues
- Highly organized, self-motivated and detail oriented
- Maintains a professional and courteous attitude when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
- Multi-task and change priorities on short notice
- Work in a fast-paced environment, sometimes with tight deadlines
- Ability to collaborate with Finance and HR team members and other internal stakeholders
- Is an independent thinker and open-mindedIS
- Can prioritize tasks, manage time, organize work, meet deadlines, problem solve
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to learn new systems and/or software quickly
- Intermediate to Advance knowledge of Excel including Vlookups. Xlookups, pivot tables and index match
- Knowledge in Salesforce, Paychex Flex, JobScience, Accounting Seed a plus
