Responsible for performing setup and machining operations utilizing the Haas (brand) Vertical Machining Center (VMC) and other Machine Shop equipment as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Works on assignments that are moderately complex to complex where independent judgment is routinely required.
• Receives no instruction on routine jobs and only general instruction on new assignments.

MAJOR TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
• Set up, program, operate and maintain CNC machines working from detailed blueprints, to perform a variety of machining operations such as mill, drill, ream, punch, bore, turn, face, etc. to specific tolerances
• Set up, program, operate and maintain the Haas EC500 machine
• Set up machine by inserting correct tools and fixtures according to blueprints. Select operation sequences, tools, feeds and speeds
• Develop programs occasionally or adjust tapes as required
• Devise new tools and fixtures for unusual operations by making machine adjustments and grinding or sharpening existing tools
• Check dimensions on finished parts using a variety of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, gauges, and calipers
• Perform QC using standard tools
• Perform all other work-related duties as assigned

SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Must be skilled in all aspects of programming, setup and operation of the Haas vertical machining center.
• Must be able to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings of fabricated parts.
• Must be able to read and write machine “G” code specific to Haas programming.
• Must be experienced in the use of computer aided manufacturing software for light editing if necessary.
• Must be familiar with basic inspection equipment micrometers, calipers, height gauge etc.

• Must have good interdepartmental communication skills both verbal & written
• Ability to setup and operate CNC Vertical Mill working from detailed blueprints
• Ability to pay attention to small details
• Ability to read blueprints
• Knowledge of tools and clamping, speeds and feeds
• Good communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Sitting will occur up to 25% of the time for brief or extended periods.
• Lifting/carrying may be required approximately 20% of the time, up to 50 pounds.
• Handling/grasping occur approximately 40% of the time.
• Standing/walking occur approximately 30% of the time on concrete floors.
• Operations in close proximity to turning spindles will require precautions be taken to ensure that clothing and hair do not become entangled.
• Exposure to noise in a fabrication shop may require the use of earplugs.
• Safety glasses and steel toe safety boots are required at all times.
• Occasional use of a forklift is required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-3 years related work experience

.When position goes perm there will be a shift differential. Looking for someone who has operated the machine and not someone who has fixed the machine or done maintenance on the machine. G-Code experience would be very helpful and will be a "feather in their cap."
