Position Summary: Responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and laws (federal, state, and local) related to the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals as well as necessary permitting for facility operation. Managing the company’s environmental reporting and implementing sustainable practices within the company's operations.

Environmental Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular monitoring (daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly) of environmental parameters such as air, water quality, and waste generation
  • Conduct regular inspections of the warehouse to identify potential environmental hazards and implement corrective actions to prevent accidents and incidents
  • Develop and implement procedures for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals in accordance with OSHA, TCEQ, ISO, and EPA regulations
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive recordkeeping system for environmental compliance documents, records, and reports
  • Collaborate with plant operations to reduce waste
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, such as EPA and OSHA, to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Working closely with the HSE Manager, conduct training sessions for warehouse staff on environmental regulations, safety protocols, and emergency procedures
  • Investigate and report any environmental incidents or spills and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and preparedness activities to ensure readiness for spills or other environmental incidents
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive environmental management system (EMS) that tracks and monitors environmental performance metrics
  • Collaborate with the lab and operations team to ensure that products are stored, handled, and shipped in accordance with environmental regulations
  • Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with environmental policies and procedures
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in environmental regulations and standards, and recommend updates to company policies and procedures as necessary
  • Participate in customer audits and serve as lead environmental contact for government agency inspections
  • Review and track invoices related to environmental expenses
  • Support plant with process improvement projects
  • Required to respond to emergency calls during off hours/weekends when required
  • Collect and analyze test samples of soil, water, and air

Environmental Specialist  Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in environmental compliance or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations, including OSHA regulations, RCRA, CWA, CAA, and TSCA
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Professional certifications such as CEP are an asset
  • Experience in the chemical manufacturing industry or similar regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 or similar environmental management
    standards.
