POSITION SUMMARY:

Sets up and operates all conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines to fabricate metallic parts. Lays out, machines, fits, assembles, and finishes metal parts to make and repair plastic injection molds, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, mold design and construction, shop mathematics, layout techniques and analyzing specification.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimension and tolerances of finished work piece.
  • Plans sequence of operations and setup requirements by visualizing shape of molds in reverse of product.
  • Measures, marks, scribes dimensions and reference points on materials or work piece as guides for subsequent machining
  • Computing dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method.
  • Setup and operate machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, and grinders, to machine parts to specifications, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications
  • Position and secure parts on surface plate or work table, using devices such as vises, v-blocks, angle plates, etc…
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, and or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machines.
  • Verify dimensions, alignment, and clearance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, such as indicators, micrometers, gauge blocks, etc.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete mold assemblies using hand tools.
  • Follows safe operating practices.
  • Aware of Quality and Environmental policies.
  • Aware of Emergency preparedness policies and procedures.
  • Follows Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption, & Conflict of Interest Policies

 

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Training and Experience: 4-10 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, and/or apprenticeship program.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee is required to:

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • Exert 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • Exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

VISUAL ACUITY:

  • Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.

 

HEARING ABILITY:

  • Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
