Discourse Power seeks a Speech Coach (Part-Time) for its Competitive Speech and Debate program to handle the following responsibilities. This role will have the following responsibilities:
- Coach high and middle school students at summer camps for various speech events. During the fall, the role will shift to coaching twice a week on weekdays or weekends. We are also open to hybrid and online options.
- Create and implement a curriculum and lesson plan to help students select appropriate pieces that maximize their potential to win on the national circuit for various speech events such as Informative Speaking, Original Oratory, Impromptu, and Interpretation events.
- Guide students through engaging practice activities to master essential public speaking techniques such as delivery, articulation, and body language.
- A willingness to try innovative teaching and coaching strategies.
- Provide detailed feedback and suggestions for improvement during practice sessions and competitions, empowering students to refine their performances.
This is a part-time role. Some responsibilities, such as curriculum development and online coaching, can be fulfilled remotely, while others require on-site coaching. Discourse Power offers on-site and online coaching to middle and high school students.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or in progress toward obtaining a bachelor’s degree. High School seniors graduating are eligible to apply.
Three to four years of experience participating in competitive Speech events with success at the NSDA and TOC levels of national circuit competition.
Knowledge of high and middle school speech formats and styles.
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
This part-time job offers a balance between fixed hours during summer camps and the flexibility to choose your hours for online coaching during the summer and school year, accommodating your personal schedule.
