Job Summary:

Learn from Lead Machinist: Must have teachable attitude. The CNC Setup Technician is responsible for setting up, and operating CNC machines to manufacture precision parts and components according to specifications. This role requires basic technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The CNC Setup Technician ensures that all machines are properly set up, maintained, and operated to meet production targets and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup and Operation:
    • Will be taught by lead machinist and must have a teachable attitude.
    • Set up CNC machines (3 & 5 Axis) according to job specifications, including loading and securing workpieces, selecting and installing tools, and entering program commands.
    • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine setup requirements.
    • Perform first article inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet quality standards.
  • Programming and Troubleshooting:
    • Develop and modify CNC programs using CAD/CAM software.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the setup and operation of CNC machines.
    • Optimize machine settings to improve efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect and measure finished products using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure they meet specifications.
    • Document and report any deviations from quality standards and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintenance and Safety:
    • Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
    • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with engineers, production supervisors, and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and production processes.
    • Provide training and guidance to junior CNC operators and other team members as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Spanish - fluent
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in CNC setup, and operation.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in operating CNC machines and using CAD/CAM software
    • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
    • Skilled in using precision measurement tools and equipment.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
    • Teachable Attitude
    • Strong attention to detail and quality-oriented mindset.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 55 pounds.
  • Standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing shop floor environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and other typical conditions.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
