Job Description: Cook in Assisted Living Facility with Four Residents

Position: Cook

Location: 1527 Morgan Ave North Minneapolis, MN 55411

Summary: As the Cook in an assisted living facility with four residents, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and satisfaction of our residents through the preparation and delivery of nutritious and delicious meals. Your primary responsibility will be to plan, cook, and serve meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of our small resident community, while adhering to the highest standards of food safety and sanitation. You will work closely with the caregiving team to provide a warm and supportive environment for our residents.

Responsibilities:

  1. Meal Planning: Designing weekly menus that are nutritionally balanced, varied, and cater to the specific dietary requirements of each resident, including any food allergies or restrictions.

  2. Cooking: Preparing and cooking meals from scratch using fresh, high-quality ingredients. Ensuring that all meals are cooked to perfection and are visually appealing.

  3. Portion Control: Carefully measuring and serving appropriate portion sizes to meet the nutritional needs of each resident.

  4. Food Safety: Following proper food handling and storage procedures to maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen environment. Regularly monitoring and recording temperatures of stored food items.

  5. Resident Preferences: Taking note of individual resident preferences and incorporating them into meal planning whenever possible to enhance the dining experience.

  6. Collaboration: Working closely with the caregiving team to understand the specific dietary requirements of each resident and addressing any concerns related to their nutritional needs.

  7. Special Occasions: Preparing and serving meals for special occasions, celebrations, and birthdays to create a festive and enjoyable atmosphere for the residents.

  8. Kitchen Maintenance: Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, including regular cleaning of kitchen equipment and utensils.

  9. Inventory Management: Assisting in maintaining an inventory of kitchen supplies and food items, ensuring timely restocking and minimizing waste.

  10. Dietary Monitoring: Monitoring residents' eating habits and reporting any significant changes to the caregiving team.

  11. Flexibility: Being adaptable to changes in the meal schedule or special requests from residents or their families.

  12. Training: Participating in any necessary training programs related to food handling, safety, and nutrition.

Qualifications:

  1. Culinary Experience: Previous experience as a cook or chef in a professional setting, preferably in an assisted living facility or similar environment.

  2. Dietary Knowledge: Understanding of various dietary needs and restrictions, including special diets for seniors or individuals with medical conditions.

  3. Food Safety Certification: Possession of valid food safety certification, demonstrating knowledge of safe food handling practices.

  4. Compassionate and Patient: Demonstrating empathy, patience, and a positive attitude when interacting with residents.

  5. Time Management: Strong organizational and time-management skills to ensure timely meal preparation and service.

  6. Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with the caregiving team and other staff members.

  7. Physical Endurance: Capable of standing for extended periods and lifting heavy objects when necessary.
