Summary

We are seeking a creative individual with good mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills to join our New Product Introduction team as a Laser Programmer. Once fully trained as a Programmer in our laser department, you will be responsible for preparation of 3D CAD models for laser processing, laser CAD/CAM programming for 3-axis and 5-axis CNC lasers, work-holding fixture design and CAD/CAM programming for CNC mill fabrication, laser process troubleshooting, and optimization of laser programs. You will also play a crucial role in laser process development and in cooperation with the machine operators, ensure high-quality process output with our laser systems.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of 3D CAD files for laser programming. CAD proficiency required; Rhino 3D software experience preferred.

  • Programming and Operation of 3-axis and 5-axis CNC lasers to support New Product Introduction with applications including but not limited to laser marking, engraving, micromachining, and texturing with nanosecond and ultrafast pulse lasers.

  • Design and development of workholding fixtures and CNC programming for fabrication with support from internal and external resources.

  • Preparation of customer scope-of-work proposals and process results inspection reports, which may include technical information and images.

  • Maintain detailed documentation and technical project notes.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize laser programs and work-holding fixtures.

  • Operation of 3D Optical Profilometer – results verification, quality control, etc.

  • Development and modification of 2D and 3D patterns and textures using creative graphics software, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop experience preferred.

  • Work in accordance with ISO 13485 requirements.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree (engineering, engineering technology, industrial/graphic design, etc.), associate degree with minimum 2 years’ experience as a CAD/CAM programmer, or High school diploma with 4 years’ experience as a CAD/CAM programmer.

  • Proficiency with of 3D CAD software (Rhino 5, Fusion 360 and Solidworks are preferred)

  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM preparation and/or programming in a manufacturing and/or industrial setting.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

  • Attention to detail and Good mechanical aptitude.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Physical stamina and dexterity to handle materials and operate laser equipment.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of laser technology, laser optics, and laser processing principles preferred, or strong knowledge of EDM (wire/die sink) or 5-axis milling technology and principles.

  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting laser/CNC systems, including familiarity with machine control interfaces.

  • Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

  • UV mapping software (Texture mapping 2D textures to 3D surfaces)

  • Rendering experience (Photoshop, Brazil, Fusion 360, Solidworks, Keyshot)

  • 3D scanning & Reverse engineering experience

Physical Demand:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to used hands and fingers. Must be able to speak and hear. The employee is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally sit, stoop and crouch. Requires mental and visual attention to detail as well as hand coordination. Occasionally lifting or moving average weight material. The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination or part-time normal and part-time concentrated attention and coordination.

Language Skills: Employee must be able to read and interpret documents written in English. Employee must be able to have good communication with fellow employees, supervisors, and management.
