We are hiring a full-time Lead Cook to provide healthy and homemade meals within a convent home for Franciscan sisters in Livonia, MI (near Madonna University, off Schoolcraft Road). This position works days and afternoons, 40 hours weekly. Weekend availability is required. The schedule includes a mixture of day shift and afternoon shift.

  • Days (6:00 - 2:30 pm)
  • Afternoons (10:00 am - 6:30 pm)
  • Weekend rotation for all dining staff

General Summary:

The Lead Cook works closely with the Dining Supervisor to ensure that the daily operations are functioning at an optimal level within an elder care environment in a convent home. This position is responsible for cooking and providing healthy, nutritious, and attractive meals for residents in a safe working environment.

During Dining Supervisor vacations or extended absences, this position will serve in place of the Dining Supervisor. This position assists management with ordering of food and supplies. Verifies invoices for the purchasing of food, supplies, and equipment and submits invoices to management. Assists the Dining Supervisor with the training of new staff.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of food service or restaurant experience (working in a commercial or institutional food service environment is a PLUS).
  • Experience in an Assisted Living, Long-Term Care, hospital or other healthcare environment is preferred but not required. SERV Safe certification preferred.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

Employees in the convent homes care for our sisters directly as nurses (RNs/LPNs), and nurse aides/ CNAs. Other positions provide indirect care as dietary staff, housekeepers and maintenance workers.
