This teaching opportunity is at Little Pearl Elementary, in Pearl River, La. Our school is a true Early Childhood facility, as we serve Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. The open position is for our Reduced Numbers Class (RNC). This class consists of no more than 6 students, 2 paraprofessionals, and 1 teacher. Please read below for further details regarding our RNC at Little Pearl. The teacher and paraprofessionals will work on: 

Social Skills Instruction: individualized, daily social skills instruction (joint attention, peer interactions, play skills, greetings, etc)

Self-Help Support: support and specific teaching for self-help needs such as toileting, handwashing, dressing, feeding; using strategies such as visual supports, task analyses, toileting schedules, social stories, etc.

Communication Supports: daily, explicit instruction and modeling with AAC to support communication deficits

Behavior Teaching: daily, individualized instruction using a combination of social-emotional learning and Applied Behavior Analysis to address behaviors requiring an intensive level of support. Highly structured and predictable environment with increased visual prompts and cues

Cognition: theory of mind (the ability to predict and interpret the behaviors/feelings of others) support through daily instruction; explicit teaching, identifying feelings, building relationships, and increase language exposure throughout the day 

Academics: grade-level standards addressed according to the students' IEP. Multisensory, individualized approach to instruction based on the student's current level of functioning. Teaching includes: 1:1 instruction, group work, and centers-based learning with an increased focus on language development and behavioral learning

As a teacher at LPE, you would be supported by the administration, SWEDL (Students with Exceptionalities Department Leader), Instructional Coach and Mentor Teacher.
