SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
**THIS IS A 1099 INDEPENDENT CONTRACT POSITION**
Job Type: Contract
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Helps facilitate communication between the deaf or hard-of-hearing students, either in one-on-one setting or group situations, including staff and students in classrooms, meetings, and activities.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job expectations include, but are not limited to:
- Daily classroom instruction as aligned to approved lesson plans.
- Ensure that all school and district policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure a sustainable relationship with parents, school personnel, and members of the public.
- Hearing interpreters will effectively interpret between ASL and spoken English.
- Deaf interpreters will effectively interpret between ASL, other forms of visual communication, and
written English.
- Enhance interpreting skills through continuing education and training.
- Maintain, as applicable, compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification
requirements.
- Willingness to work with a supervisor in other related responsibilities when interpreting is optional.
EDUCATION:
Preferred:
- Associates degree in liberal arts with concentrations in Education, Human Services or other related field
- RID certification
- Be American Sign Language (ASL) certified,
Be fluent in English and ASL which combines signing, finger spelling, and specific body language. Possess a minimum of one year of experience of translating and interpreting through the use of English and American Sign Language or other work requiring the use of those sign languages. Possess a minimum of one year of experience of translating and interpreting for elementary-age children in school settings.
Possess basic computer skills.
