We are seeking a Railroad Locomotive Carman. Minimum 1 yrs Experience Required. This is a non-FRA site and prospective candidate does not have to be FRA certified but must be experienced in carman duties.

Job Summary

The Carman is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of railroad rolling stock, including freight cars, passenger cars, and other rail-related equipment. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work in various weather conditions.

Job Responsibilities

·        Inspect and repair rail cars, ensuring compliance with all railroad rules and regulations outlined with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)

·        Perform welding, painting, and general construction tasks on cars and locomotives

·        Identify and analyze defective components, indicating necessary corrective actions

·        Inspect the securement of lading in open top or flat cars for compliance with Association of American Railroads (AAR) rules

·        Remove and replace couplers, draft gears, yokes, and other car components

·        Conduct airbrake tests and apply end-of-train devices

·        Clean, lubricate, and maintain tie-down devices and other special equipment on railroad cars

·        Operate light and heavy cranes, forklifts, and other car moving shop equipment

·        Maintain accurate records of repairs and inspections

·        Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications

·        At least one year of mechanical work experience or training

·        Welding and fabrication experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 70 lbs, occasionally 100 lbs
  • Stand, walk, and balance for long periods
  • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing
  • Effective use of hands and arms
  • Good vision, hearing, and communication abilities
  • Work in intense heat and other environmental conditions
  • Wear safety gear like protective boots and glasses
  • Availability for overtime and shift work
