Prairie Management and Development, Inc. is seeking to add a Senior Property Accountant to the accounting department at its main office on Michigan Avenue. This person will oversee and implement all accounting activities for several properties located in the Midwest. This includes general ledger preparation through the Yardi Accounting system and reporting responsibilities to owners and various governmental agencies. The Senior Property Accountant will report to and coordinate with the company Controller and be responsible for directing and supervising a number of Junior/staff Property Accountants. This individual will work closely with Property Managers, as well as Regional Managers, with respect to all accounting issues at the property. Specific tasks and responsibilities are outlined below.

This salary amount does not include an Annual discretionary bonus reflecting your progress and performance PLUS fully paid medical and Disability insurance.

 

Responsibilities and understandings may include the following:

  • Understand and comply with GAAP and internal control policies and procedures
  • Review rent Roll and Gross Potential Rent and record adjustments as appropriate
  • Review and enter Accounts Payable and assist with check generation
  • Maintain monthly General ledger for assigned properties and review others
  • Review and reconcile related bank accounts and select Balance Sheet and Income Statement Accounts
  • Post recurring journal entries and assist with month-end closing process
  • Prepare and submit Monthly Housing Assistance Payment vouchers to the Department of Housing and Urban Development
  • Maintain escrow accounts including mortgage, reserve, and insurance accounts and depreciation schedules
  • Prepare and assemble required reports for Management Personnel, investors, and governmental agencies on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis including those required for audit and tax reporting purposes

 

Staff Responsibilities:

  • Document and aid in the resolution of issues related to process and procedures
  • Review and supervise work of Junior/Staff accountants
  • Senior Property Accountant may be responsible for other tasks not listed above, as assigned by the Controller and CFO

 

Qualifications:

  • BS Accounting with sufficient hours of study to be eligible to sit for CPA Exam
  • Mandatory minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a property accountant.
  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience and performance history
