TITLE:    Metrology Technician
SHIFT:    2nd shift (3:30pm-12am) (M-F)
SALARY: $28-$35/hr

General Description:
 
The Metrology Technician is responsible for utilizing the CMM, gathering data, and documenting quality levels by performing dimensional analysis and visual inspections. Works with Project Engineers to ensure successful product launches.  Uses APQP systems including PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA to complete ppap submissions as required by the customers. Collaborates with engineering personnel to determine critical part features and review manufacturability of design.  Provides leadership for the quality of product.
 
Responsibilities:  

  • Plans, organizes, and executes the completion of all metrology reporting using the CMM, vision system, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Completes PPAP documentation in accordance with PPAP manual and/or customerspecified requirements for all new product launches, transfer tooling, annual layouts, and product/process changes.
  • Performs process capability studies and MSA studies.   
  • Provides cross-training within the department as well as complete gap closures in the training matrix.
  • Provide for the identification and maintenance of SPC on selected products.
  • Participates in corrective action meetings. Collects data for problem-solving and provides input to mitigate risks, reduce cost and waste.
  • Provides ideas/suggestions to standardize work practices and reduce non value-added activities.

Required Experience:

  • Ten (10) years of Quality Assurance and/or Quality Engineering experience.
  • Trade school certification and/or college degree with engineering background desired.
  • Knowledgeable with IATF-TS16949 standards
  • Calibration and internal auditing experience highly desired. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be proficient in operating the CMM and be able to create programs to complete full dimensional layouts of plastic injection molded parts.
  • Experienced with Calypso inspection software or similar.
  • Proficiency with GD&T print tolerancing and interpretation.
  • Ability to complete PPAP’s, ISIR’s, MSA studies, & other tasks required of the PPAP process. ?   Working knowledge of statistical tools including Mini-Tab and other software. ? Hands-on knowledge of automotive core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA) ?          
  • Excellent computers skills (MS Office).
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) highly desired.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with team members, customers, & vendors.
  • Effective decision-making, communication and organizational skills.
  • Highly detailed and accuracy of work.
