Job DescriptionJob Description

Under supervision of a licensed/certified Prosthetist, duties include but are not limited to:

  • Participation in the evaluation of patients with impairment of human movement or musculoskeletal abnormalities that would impede their ability to participate in their social/ work environment or other activities in order to determine a functional intervention.

  • Implementation of the established prosthetic treatment plan

  • Utilization of a follow-up treatment plan that ensures successful prosthetic outcomes, patient health and quality of life

  • Compliance with practice management plans to develop and document policies and procedures to ensure patient protection

  • Under direction of Prosthetist:

  • Assists Prosthetist in providing care to and fabricating and fitting prostheses for patients with partial or total absence of limb, makes assigned casts, measurements, and model modifications.

  • Performs fitting, including static and dynamic alignments.

  • Evaluates prosthesis on patient to ensure fit, function, and quality of work.

  • Repairs and maintains prostheses.

  • Treat patients to relieve pain and/or develop or restore function to reach the highest level within the prostheses.

  • Examine, interview, and measure patients to determine their appliance needs and to identify factors that could affect appliance fit.

  • Instruct patients in the use and care of prostheses and of assistive equipment.

  • Design prosthetic devices, based on physicians' prescriptions and examination and measurement of patients.

  • Write clinical progress notes on the date of the visit for inclusion into the patient’s permanent record.

  • Attend staff meetings, in-service presentations and case conferences.

  • Communicate regularly with the attending Prosthetist for instruction in changes to the patient’s plan of care.

  • Communicate regularly with the clinical manager and others relative to patient care.

  • Instruct patients and their families in techniques and activities of daily living with a new prosthetic device

  • Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques frequently throughout the course of a work day/shift; must be capable of easily lifting fifty (50) pounds of weight alone.
