Job Overview:

The Analyst in Energy Marketing & Trading will support the trading team by conducting market analysis, developing trading strategies, and managing data and analytics tools. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, an understanding of energy markets, and the ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Market Analysis:

    • Monitor and analyze electricity, natural gas, and renewable energy markets.
    • Develop models to forecast prices, demand, and supply conditions.
    • Track and interpret market trends, regulatory changes, and geopolitical events impacting energy markets.

  2. Trading Support:

    • Assist traders by providing real-time data analysis and market insights.
    • Develop and back-test trading strategies.
    • Prepare daily reports on market conditions, positions, and performance.

  3. Data Management and Analysis:

    • Collect, process, and analyze large datasets from various sources including market data, weather data, and operational data.
    • Use statistical and machine learning techniques to enhance trading strategies and market forecasts.
    • Maintain and improve databases and analytical tools.

  4. Risk Management:

    • Identify and assess market risks and opportunities.
    • Support the development of risk management strategies and tools.
    • Monitor and report on risk metrics and compliance.

  5. Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant market rules and regulations.
    • Stay updated on regulatory changes and assess their impact on trading strategies.

  6. Reporting and Communication:

    • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
    • Communicate complex analytical findings clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  7. Continuous Improvement:

    • Continuously improve analytical tools, models, and processes.
    • Stay updated with the latest advancements in energy markets, data analytics, and related technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in energy trading.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or MATLAB.
    • Experience with energy market modeling software and platforms (e.g., PLEXOS, PROMOD, or similar).
    • Advanced Excel skills.
