  • ABiLITY is a nonprofit organization providing direct services and support for individuals with disabilities from birth through adulthood. We are dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities by providing direct services and support. We assist people with various disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, and autism to learn essential skills for self-care, independence, employment, and community integration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or Elementary Education with Early Childhood Provisional or Child Development.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience with infants/toddlers with disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license

Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • None required

Summary of Duties:

A Special Instructor works with families in the Early Intervention program to help promote the child's development in areas of delay or concern.

  • Regularly exercises independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance.
  • Makes home visits to families enrolled in the Early Intervention Program.
  • Maintains positive relationships with children and families.
  • Offers families information about child development.
  • Demonstrates appropriate strategies for promoting the child's development.
  • Offers help toward developing effective parenting techniques and parent advocacy strategies.
  • Participates in assessments and planning for children enrolled.
  • Submits reports, forms, and records in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures record quality and compliance with program policies, DMH regulations, and accreditation standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with program families.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments and situations within a home.
  • Ability to lift up to 40-pound children.
  • Ability to perform CPR.

Hours:

  • Full-time
  • Hours shall be scheduled to accommodate family needs.
